Secrets to a Natural Look While Wearing A Weave

Image

It’s easy to see what makes weaves so popular-the almost-instant gratification of long, short, red, blond, straight, curly, fine or thick hair. If attached by expert hands, the tresses you bought can even give the hair that nature gave you a rest and help it grow. But for every gorgeous weave, there are a few bad ones. And a healthy weave is even more rare. Here are some tips on how to achieve a natural look while wearing a weave:

Image

  • Buy Human Hair. Synthetic hair is cheaper but it doesn’t move like human hair. You should get hair as versatile as you are. Synthetic hair also melts under heat, so forget about curling or straightening. Buying human hair by the ounce, as opposed to in a pack, is the preference of top stylists. Eight to ten ounces of quality human hair can cost from $200 to $600. If you’re going to spend the money, get good quality hair… after all, this is an investment. Luckily, we offer Bundle Sales at Empress Luxury Hair.
  • Try to match the hair to YOUR hair and hair color. Buying quality hair is absolutely essential, but it’s not enough. Selecting a believable texture is critical. If the weave is bone straight and your visible hair is tightly coiled, or if the purchased hair looks like it would never have grown out of your scalp, it’s wrong. You want your weave to look natural. Don’t choose a weave that doesn’t mesh with your lifestyle. If you work out a lot, try a texture and cut that needs little heat or manipulation.
  • Blend, Blend, Blend. Do show some scalp or your hairline so the look is more realistic. The weave and your hair should blend together beautifully. If you get a full weave and you leave out some of your hair for a more natural look, there are a few ways to style it so that it will blend with the hair weaved in. Invest in a   decent curling iron or flat iron. Make sure you curl or flat iron the hair so it blends easier. There are options if you don’t want to leave any hair out, though, such as closures
  • Handle With Care. Take care of your weave the same way you would with your natural hair, and it will last for months. Make sure you comb it out before washing and avoid using alcohol and harsh products when you wash, condition and style. If you don’t detangle daily, the hair sheds and gets tangled in the braid, causing unnecessary hair loss when you remove the track. Human hair wefts can last almost a year if you take care of them. Deep-condition like you would your own hair. Hot oil treatments and steam treatments maintain manageability.

You hair is a reflection of who you are, treat it with care and it will last long and look very natural.

How to Relieve an Itchy Scalp While Wearing a Sew In Weave

Image

Back in the day, you could spot a weave wearer with an itchy scalp a mile away because she walked down the street patting herself in the head to relieve the discomfort.  Remember Beyonce’s infamous lyric:  Pat yo’ weave ladies! Do not become this woman; Instead use these tips to alleviate your itchy scalp while wearing a sew in weave!

Many ladies suffer from dry, itchy scalps prior to installing a sew in weave and not being able to easily reach your scalp can exacerbate the situation.  There are even women who want the ease, freedom and versatility weaves provide but refuse to get them because they anticipate their scalp will be miserable being braided for several weeks.  Fret not, there are ways to solve an itchy scalp while wearing a sew in weave that will leave your head feeling cleansed and refreshed.

First of all, irritable scalps can originate from the installation process.  Shampoo and condition your hair thoroughly before having your sew in done.  During the installation, make sure your braids aren’t pulling at your scalp and the wefts of extensions are not sewn too tightly.  Proper shampooing at least biweekly will help prevent itchiness from even occurring!

If you have taken the above precautions but still suffer from itchiness, try applying soothing oils to your scalp.  Create a mixture with a few drops of tea tree oil and your favorite carrier oil such as grapeseed, olive or coconut oils in a nozzle tip applicator bottle and shake well.  The nozzle tip makes it possible to apply the oils directly to your scalp around and through the extensions and braids.  Tea tree oil is antibacterial and antifungal while adding a refreshing tingle to your scalp.  Be careful not to over saturate your scalp because oil the oil will begin to run down your hair and oily extensions are not cute!

Another option is to apply dry shampoo to your scalp.  These formulas are usually available in aerosol cans and can be sprayed between your tracks to help absorb excess oil and remove product buildup.  They are amazing for a quick fix if you do not have time to shampoo your hair.

But what really triggers that fiery feeling on the top of our heads?

One of the most common reasons for an itchy scalp is dandruff. It is a condition that is caused by the overgrowth of yeast on our scalp, which triggers inflammation at our roots and itching. The most noticeable downside of dandruff is flaking, or the peeling away of dry layers of the scalp.

If you do suffer from dandruff, continue to use your anti-dandruff shampoo. If you have a severe case of an itch, one that results in pus forming bumps on the head, please take your scalp to a health professional to have the problem addressed.

What Does Co-Wash Mean?

Image

What is Co-Washing?

Co-washing: also known, as conditioner washing, is a way to clean the hair without the use of shampoo. Washing your hair with conditioner, or co-washing is often considered very good for curly hair. Co-washing consists of cleansing the hair with a moisturizing conditioner. Conventional shampoos can cause natural or virgin hair to become dry, unmanageable, and frizzy. Washing your hair with a good rinse-out conditioner can keep those tresses moisturized and healthy. For it to be effective make sure you are using a moisturizing conditioner not a protein conditioner. A protein conditioner will dry out your tresses.

Benefits of Co washing

The general benefit of co-washing is that it eliminates dryness, some women find that their hair grows more when they co wash. Another common effect is that women find it easier to retain hair length. For the hair types mentioned below the following benefits are often experienced.

Transitioning hair – Softens new growth so less breakage at demarcation* line.

Relaxed hair – Softens new growth making stretching relaxer touch ups easier.

Natural hair – Eliminates dryness and makes wash-and-go styling a reality.

Weave hair – Extracts any odors and traces of dye, it also moisturizes and softens

How to Co wash your hair

For ladies new to this method the best option is to co wash weekly, after co washing allow the hair to air dry. When you are in a hurry and need to dry your hair quickly, dry it with a hood dryer or a diffuser, You can fully or partially dry your locks.  Alternatively use a blow dryer on cool setting.

  1. Apply the conditioner to wet or dry hair.
  2. Leave the conditioner in your hair for 3 – 15 minutes.
  3. Detangle your hair whilst it is full of conditioner – it’s easier.
  4. Fully rinse out the conditioner or for a more frizz free finish leave 5 – 10% of the product in your hair.
  5. Ideally allow your hair to air dry.

Essentially, co-washing on a weekly basis is an effective and easy way to deal with dry hair. Give it a try. Dig out those old bottles of conditioner you didn’t totally fall in love with and make them useful.

Pastor Bans Hair Weaves From His Church

Image

Pastor A.J. Aamir in Waco, Texas has a problem with WEAVE. So much so that he has banned women of the church’s leadership from wearing weaves inside his church, Resurrecting Faith

AllChristianNews.com reports:

Pastor A.J. Aamir spoke on AmericanPreacher.com about why he told his parishioners that weaves are simply unacceptable in the eyes of the Lord. The pastor at Resurrecting Faith believes that the devices present a false image of women. He also says that they are reflective of low self-esteem coming from women who are trying to be something that they are not. “Our black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not. Be real with yourself is all I’m saying” said Pastor Aamir. It’s easy to see why the preacher would come up with such a rule, when you consider his upbringing. The pastor grew up in a strict Islamic household, one that didn’t mess around. The pastor says that women should focus more on developing their minds, not just focusing on their appearance. “Long hair don’t care.” What kind of mess is that? I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not IN their heads” he told AmericaPreachers.com.

Pastor Aamir cited members of his congregation having financial troubles yet still managing to get $300 weaves as a problem. Please, no one tell him about Foxy Brown dropping $900 on a weave, and allegedly skipping out on the bill. Definitely, don’t tell him about Ms. Yancy’s Confessions of a Hair Weave Addict. Haha!

Do you think the pastor is overstepping his bounds or do you agree?

Things to Do Before You Give Up On Your Weave

Image

We’ve all been there, you have a weave installed and it looks great! You’re shaking your hair, looking fabulous. Next thing you know, a month later, the hair just doesn’t have that ‘it’ factor it had when you first had it installed. What to do before calling it quits? In this article, we’ll fill you in on a few ways to keep your weave looking better… longer.

The first thing we must all remember is that weave is hair. With that being said, it must be taken care of regularly to live up to its true potential. It’s not uncommon for us to sleep without tying our hair up, lay on a ton of oily products, flat iron our weave daily on 450 degrees, then wonder where the old dog on top of our head came from. Using common sense, if we did these things to our hair on a regular basis, we probably wouldn’t have any! So, we must remember to treat our weave like we’d treat our own hair. This will prevent MANY of the problems that cause us to give up.

If you notice that your weave is stiff, stringy and is no longer blowing in the wind, it’s likely that you have too much build up on your strands. The best way to remedy this common issue is to wash the hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and let it air dry, then style as usual with no product. That’s right, I said air-dry! This can only be accomplished if you wash the weave, not your hair. You should go to great lengths to keep your scalp and hair dry when you plan to air dry, you don’t want a stinky issue to fester on your damp scalp.

Is your weave dry and brittle? Wishing you had a little moisture from the last paragraph? Well, your issue is pretty easy to fix! Simply co-wash your hair in a moisturizing conditioner and you’re good to go. Whenever you need to give your hair a little moisture and bring it back to life, co-washing is your best bet.

If your weave is sewn in, time is not your friend. As your hair grows, the thread loosens around your braids, giving your extensions a loose and sagging appearance. To correct this, you must have your weave tightened by your stylist, or do it yourself if you self-install. Typically, tightening is required between 3 to 4 weeks after your initial install. This will give your weave a neater appearance for a while.

Do you notice fried hard ends on your weave? This is often due to using extremely high heat on your style. It’s exacerbated by using high heat on top of heavy products. The hair is basically burnt and there’s no way to repair this issue. For this reason, it’s extremely important that you use as little product as possible and use only the amount of heat that you need.

The issues discussed here are the most common problems that occur when wearing a weave. This article offers quick and easy solutions to fix or avoid these annoying issues to keep you looking fabulous everyday with as little time and effort as possible. It always important to keep in mind that if you take care of your hair, whether it’s grown from your scalp or purchased from our line, it will certainly take care of you.

HAIR CARE: Taking Care of Your Hair Under the Weave

Image

Ladies, we all view our hair as precious – whether relaxed, natural, or transitioning. A lot of ladies wear weaves or wigs for fashion, but most wear it to protect or save their damaged hair. Whatever your reason, you MUST take care of your hair underneath it all.

How to take care of your hair under your weave:
  1. Length of time to wear your weave – It’s recommend that you wear your weave no longer than 2 to 3 months. The weave itself may hold up much longer, but it’s really about your hair underneath. The longer you keep the weave in the more likely your hair will start to dread underneath. Dreaded or badly tangled hair = MAJOR HAIR LOSS
  2. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture – Make sure your hair stays moisturized under your weave. You can moisturize your hair with a light oil like COCONUT OIL or carrot oil. I say light because you don’t want to weigh your weave down with oils. I personally love coconut oil on my hair and lightly on my weave.
  3. Shampooing your hair under the weave – It is easier to shampoo your weave while in the shower to help minimize or even eliminate tangling. Tilt your head back and gently wash the hair. A lot of weave wearers (including myself) use an applicator bottle to mix shampoo and water. Shake it, and then squirt the shampoo suds in between the tracks. You can do the same with the conditioner. Rinse thoroughly. After you’re done with your wash session, make sure that your hair is dried completely underneath or your hair will mildew. I like to sit under a hair dryer for about an hour to make sure that my hair is completely dry.
  4. Combing, Brushing and Styling – Be easy when styling your hair. Remember the weave is attached to your actual hair and you don’t want to cause more stress than necessary.
  5. Post-Install – Try to space out each install. When I take my install out I would wait about 2 weeks before installing a new round. I would make sure I give myself a good deep condition and a trim.
  6. Relaxed Hair – If you relax your hair, wait at least 2 weeks before installing your weave. Remember your hair is more fragile when you relax and you don’t want to add stress to your scalp and strands with a heavy weave.
Ladies, you can actually grow and repair damaged hair through weaves. Just be sure not to neglect your own hair during and after wearing weave as a protective style. Remember to give your hair some TLC (and time) and you’ll see improvements.

What’s the Difference: Remy vs VIRGIN Hair

Empress Virgin Hair Bundle

Have you ever wondered what the meaning of Remy, Yaky, Virgin, Brazilian, Peruvian, Mongolian, Chinese, Italian, European, or Russian hair is?

In this article we will discuss the most popular textures of human hair weaves used today.

Remy Hair can be categorized in the premium segment, as far as hair quality is concerned.  Remy Hair is bundled in such a manner that the roots of the hair are on one side and the tip of the hair on the opposite side.   Since all the hair cuticles are placed in the same direction, the hairs remain undisturbed, making them more durable and long lasting.

Let’s get one thing straight ladies Remy Hair does not always mean Virgin hair, in fact it rarely means that.   Although the two terms are used synonymously, they are completely different in meanings.

Yaky Hair:  Is called Yaky or Regular Yaky or Regular relaxed yaky.  Yaky is made to look like typical African American hair that has been relaxed and is not as silky as the Remy hair, the strands are thicker.

Virgin hair means that it’s hair so pure that it’s never been processed or treated, EVER.   That means the donors have never in their lifetime gone to a salon to get their hair curled or colored!

Brazilian, Peruvian, Mongolian, Chinese, and Italian Hair are all a form of Virgin hair.  The hair is 100% natural and not processed and free of any damage to the cuticles.   The hair usually comes from the specific country it is named after.

European hair is collected in the CIS countries; they consist of what was used to be the Soviet Union.  The main difference of this hair consists that they have natural correct European colors, from dark brown to light-blonde.   The structure of the hair is thin and silky.  European hair blends well with women of European decent.
